It's been several years that Belgian artist Pierre Remy has been forging his own path on the European scene ; thus, under the name of "Fractional"-Pierre's electro experimental solo project- several CD and vinyl releases have already been delivered. Hungry for new sound adventures, "Fractional" is now coming back with a full length CD album and EP vinyl, “Come Mierda”. Fractional' s music -somewhere in between breakbeat experiments, electronica and pure industrial-constructs itself on complex structures, subtle though catchy melodies and rhythms, thus creating an extremely personal, bizarre and always most fascinating sound universe. Pick out the best of IDM, for example, Autechre and Squarepusher, add subtle industrial influences, a pinch of the harshness of drum’n’bass, you’ll get a mix of dark Electronica with a strong jungle aftertaste: that’s what “Come Mierda” is dealing with.

Come Mierda Reviews :
Subtle electronica with low end breaks kick off this extraordinary release. Its skittish, it’s frenetic, but does not overstate itself in its initial onslaught. There is an element of Richard D. James in this but it’s very slight and consistently keeps you on your toes as opposed to bludgeoning you to death.
Curious and more curious this album slows for track two with some very early Aphex Twin-isms and you really come to terms quite quickly here with what Fractional are trying to convey. There really are some conflicting forces at work on ‘Come Mierda’; some of the fluid IDM tendencies are bordering on cheese factor ten, but strangely enough are allowed to come into their own and are carried along with beautifully programmed breaks; Wonderful.
What attracts me to Fractional is their ability to do whatever they want to. Dark Ambient and other opposing forces like trip-hop are thrown at will into the foray at the most unexpected of moments, and it’s this wild abandon that really sets this release apart, such is its lack of convention.
As far as pure electronica goes this is pretty high on my list of ‘must have’ albums for any self respecting music fan. Eclectic, accessible, enjoyable, moody, clever; Essential listening.

While the music presented on "Come Mierda" is essentially pretty calm stuff, it has anything but a calming effect. A threatening overtone (or possibly undertone, if the vibrating sub-bass on "Quigan" or "Sibi" is anything to go by) shrouds the entire recording in a palpable air of dissatisfaction. On this album Fractional manages to produce one of the better examples of hybridized genre-bending - a fusion of the harsh erraticism of drum'n'bass (such as on "Sunda") and short-circuiting IDM glitchiness (typified on "Zhstr"), with sweeping atmospheres providing the catalyst for this synthesis. Clever modulations, such as the hollow LFO synth introduction to "Leta," showcase the technical versatility of this artist. With a plethora of preprogrammed synthesizer settings and presets cluttering the internet (and the music industry), original sound manipulation automatically makes music memorable.
The most positive comment I have on "Come Mierda" is its dynamic range. On "Misute" (the video for which, included on the CD or viewable on the Fractional MySpace page, is a wonderfully surreal adventure questioning identity and Oriental mythology) a deceptively gentle melody slowly builds into a breakbeat/jungle orgy. This is supplanted by grating, tearing sounds that eventually give way to the original melody once more. On the negative side, I would like to hear more vocal experimentation - the unintelligible vocoded garble on "Zhstr," while interesting, only hints at additional instrumentation possibilities. Even short samples would add a new dimension to what are already dense, layered arrangements.
"Come Mierda" is, in essence, more like dark IDM than ambient, industrial or drum'n'bass, but will appeal to fans across all these genres for different reasons. Imagine a chimeric creation mingling Squarepusher, Panacea, Ah Cama-Sotz and Haujobb, and you'll have something approximating Fractional in mind. -- David vander Merwe [8/10] http://www.connexionbizarre.net/

Following several cd and vinyl releases for various labels in the last few years Belgian musician Pierre Remy releases his new album, “Come Mierda”, for Brume Records. Sitting somewhere between ambient, IDM and jungle, Remy creates an addictive mix of styles that are expertly blended to create his own experimental electronic music hybrid. Often using a fluid and slightly futuristic backdrop with a pinch of oddity in the form of weird sound effects, Remy layers energetic yet smooth and precise breaks drawn from drum n bass and jungle influences. The title track “Come Mierda” that opens the album is a great example of this; extended breaks are punctuated by passages of gentler, more doleful synth tones. Good illustrations of his use of odd sounds with breaks can be found in tracks such as “Ceras”, “Leta” and “Sunda”. Amongst other styles, Remy goes down a darker, more disturbing path with “Sibi”, draws on edgy Indian influences on “Kasida” and ventures into nightmarish experimental territory for “Zrthstr”, further illustrating the scope of his ability. There are even a couple of bonus “Kasida” remixes; the first is a wonderfully cinematic electro-orchestral rework by Detritus and the second is a Disharmony remix that fuses the gentler piano, orchestral and Indian influences with extended bursts of crunchy industrial breaks. The CD also includes a video for the track “Misute” that features a glum looking masked figure that transforms into a demonic long-haired freaky dancer as the breaks kick in. “Come Mierda” is a wide-ranging album of diverse stylistic influences, both light and dark, that is well conceived and executed. http://www.side-line.com

(4+/5 - sh) Vibe Magazine
Fractional is a Belgian electronic project from Pierre Remy who’s releasing an experimental recording with Come Mierda on the French Brume records. Come Mierda is characterized by dark electronic music with a drum ‘n bass influence. Breakbeat experiments, idm, glitch and industrial meet up for a perfect match in complex structures, subtle melodies and raving rhythms, creating a special and sometimes very fascinating sound spectrum. The melodies sometimes sound deceivingly accessible and the textures breathe an almost erotic gothic atmosphere, but when from underneath the complex rhythms and patterns rise to the surface it becomes clear that Fractional is not meant for everyone because of these complicated structures and complex arrangements. Photek and Squarepusher meets Hymen records could be a good description that in some way indicates what Fractional musically is about. Bonus remixes from Disharmony and Detritus are featured as last tracks of the album. Furthermore the album contains a videoclip of ''Misute'' by Antonin de Bemels. The vinyl version has remixes from DJ Hidden and Cdatakill. A dark venture !
Belgian musician Pierre Remy is active as Fractional and his latest album COME MIERDA ("Like shit") is going to be released at the end of the month by Brume Records. Fractional creates great sound sculptures where ambient, dub, break beat and industrial music is blend into a cinematic mixture that works really great. Listening to tracks like "Sibi" makes you dive into a different world and if you close your eyes you'll realize that it isn't a really comfortable one. Tension, a bit of sadness, melancholy and rage are the feelings expressed by Pierre's music and if you check the Antonin de Bemels ''Misute'' video, (you can find it into the CDrom partition of the CD) you'll check yourself what I mean. We have faceless guys walking down the streets. The main character (when the break beat part is on) turns into what it seems to be a Tibetan demon (or it is an oni) with a great visual effect (his hair spread and twist). Great sound and atmosphere... 4/5 http://www.chaindlk.com/
If the monsters in the classic arcade video game of the 70's "Space Invaders" had created music it would probably sound like this. Take the soundtrack of Ed Wood's "Plan 9 from outer space" and blend it with futuristic electronic experiments, add a few doses of horrific choirs' atmospheres from eastern fright flicks and you might have an idea what to expect on this interesting album Pierre Remy titled "Come Mierda". Under the project name Fractional, Pierre Remy creates a fascinating blend of semi-melodic IDM, upfront industrial and furious breakbeats once in a while approaching the harsh level of breakcore other times resting in tranquilizing downbeat IDM-moments reminiscent of early Warp Records. Fractional manage to combine emotional ambient-like expressions with dramatic semi-harsh breakbeat electronics. And it definitely works well! (NM) Vital Weekly vital@vitalweekly.net

An electronica project made in Belgium, Fractional lives between rhythmic electronica, breakbeats, subtle ambience and a touch of ever needed industrial. From uptempo, through ambience to breaks, a catalogue of inspired and inspiring synthetic effects to titillate the ears of the adepts, the rather unattractively titled Come Mierda is an intriguing journey that never stalls, rather moving into varied fields of the industrial electronica as the work develops. I tend to favor the more atmospheric numbers over the breakbeats, but to the author credit is the fact that it all integrates very well from track to track and even the darker and more experimental moments such as Sibi or Krthstr are so well integrated that they manage to release your mind from the grip once leaving way to more conventional electronics and rhythmic tracks. There's a substrate of twisted elements, mostly sitting in the background from track to track that give another thread of continuity throughout the work and give this work a direction which is quite unconventional overall. A titillating project, waiting to be discovered from the vaults of Brume Records. http://www.darksite.ch/darklife/dlzineX6frame_cdreviewsdec08.html
